Ready to Eat, Ready for a Storm |
While politicians in Washington continue to debate whether global warming is for real, one thing is for sure—we’re definitely seeing “global weirding,” as coined by New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman. One minute it is beautiful and the next you are faced with a severe thunderstorm, hail, or worse, a tornado. Many Americans this summer have encountered weather that is very unusual in the most unlikely of places. You never know when you are going to be without power for a couple of days to a week, but these days you can’t take any chances.
I am in the middle of not having power from a severe thunderstorm this week and I am expected to have no power for a minimum of 5 days! This means that all my food in the refrigerator and freezer has spoiled. However, my saving grace has been Tasty Bite! Since I have a gas stove and propane grille, all I have to do is boil water and heat up Tasty Bite. If necessary, I can even put my Tasty Bite pouches in the sun, and they will heat up sufficiently! While I sit and watch my perishable food spoil I am happy that Tasty Bite is shelf stable and ready to eat.
So far this storm season, our family has enjoyed we have eaten Tasty Bite Brown Rice with Madras Lentils and a side of avocado, Tofu Corn Masala with Tasty Bite Garlic Brown Rice and fresh peaches. Tonight I am planning on using some of my left over salad ingredients in the cooler and mixing it with our Barley Medley Meal Inspirations and some non-perishable ingredients to make the Barley Medley Summer Salad. Check out our latest video on YouTube to show you how to make this salad: http://bit.;ey/lc6WrN. All of these wonderful meals require no refrigeration and can either be heated up on the grille, fire, gas stove or in the sun!
